Using your Phone as a pedometer
Most smartphones have a built in pedometer which tracks your steps - you can use this data to participate in the Converge Move challenge without needing a smartwatch or fitness tracker.
The steps data collected by your phone needs to by synced to either Apple Health (for iPhones) or Google Fit (for Android devices) as the Converge App can only collect data from Apple Health of Google Fit.
Get started
There are 3 things you need to get started and for this feature to work:
You need a smartphone that has a built in pedometer (see the next section)
You need the Apple Health App or Google Fit App to collect this data from the pedometer
You then need to allow the Converge App to see the data collected by Apple Health or Google Fit
See below for these 3 steps in detail:
1. Does your phone have a built in pedometer?
The following devices have a built in pedometer:
Apple | Android |
---|---|
All iPhone models from iPhone 7 and newer that have Apple Health app installed | All Samsung Galaxy devices
|
| All Google Pixel devices
|
| All Oppo devices that run Google Android 13 or 14 and newer
|
| Motorola Devices from 2019 and newer that run Google Android 13 or 14 and newer

2. Setup Apple Health or Google Fit
For Apple iPhone users:
Make sure you have the Health App installed (if you don’t see it, go to the App Store and re-download it)
On your iPhone, go to the Settings App, then scroll down to “Privacy” or “Privacy and Security”
In the Privacy section, scroll down to the “Motion & Fitness” section
Make sure “Fitness tracking” is on and also make sure “Health” is on below that
For Android users:
Make sure you download the Google Fit App. If you have it, open the Google Fit app and follow any setup steps presented.
If you are a Samsung user, the Samsung Health App collects your steps movement - you’ll need to then connect Samsung Health to Google Fit which in-turn syncs data to the Converge App; see here: Sync Samsung Health with Google Fit
3. Sync Apple Health or Google Fit data to the Converge App
Finally, you’ll need to permit the Converge App to access fitness and steps data from Apple Health or Google Fit.
